Job summary

Three Lakes Educational Cooperative seeks a paraeducator to assist certified teachers in supporting students with special needs. Under licensed staff direction, you will help implement instructional objectives, maintain a safe classroom, and participate in IEP-related activities as requested.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED (minimum).

Responsibilities

• Perform with direction of licensed staff in a manner consistent with requirements of law, rules and regulations, local district policies and procedures, and TLEC policies and procedures.
• Attend TLEC and district inservices as requested.
• Complete required inservice hours as designated by Kansas State Department of Education.
• Attend staff meetings as requested.
• Maintain excellent attendance.
• Work to implement the vision and mission of TLEC and the school district.
• May be required to transport students.
• May be required to maintain current driving requirements (CDL, defensive driving, Medic First Aid) to transport students by bus, van, or car.
• Comply with confidentiality for educational and medical records and ensure parent communication comes from certified personnel.
• Interact with students in a respectful manner respecting diverse needs and disabilities.
• Provide documentation of observations using basic data collection techniques as needed.
• Establish and maintain positive rapport with learners, teachers and administration.
• Use developmentally appropriate strategies and assistive technologies as directed to accomplish instructional objectives.
• Assist in maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment.
• Promote learner independence and inclusion.
• Implement behavior management strategies per IEPs and Positive Behavior Support Plans.
• Support language or motor development as outlined by therapists and document progress.
• Develop social skills across settings.
• Serve as a positive role model.
• Report accidents, assaults, or damages to appropriate staff.
• Follow district safety policies.
• Participate in IEP meetings when requested.
• Provide work-related instruction in school or community settings.
• Assist with supervision during teacher absence.
• Other duties as assigned by teachers and administrators.
• Demonstrate scheduling and location flexibility.
• Follow technology and social media policies.
