Job summary

Montgomery-Public-Schools is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to assist the instructional team and support students with special needs. The role involves helping with planning, small group instruction, and material preparation to enhance student achievement.

You will work under the Special Education Teacher and Principal, providing classroom support, supervision during activities, and assistance with health and safety tasks as required.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or 48 semester hours required.
• Ability to meet suitability criteria under applicable Alabama acts.
• Demonstrated success in relevant work experience.
• Ability and willingness to work in a demanding, stressful environment.
• Proficient in oral and written communication with students, parents and others.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
• Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Physical strength and mobility to perform job tasks.
• Ability to use technology to communicate, manage data, and prepare reports.

Responsibilities

• Assist the special education services teacher with instructional and support services.
• Support planning and implementing learning experiences for pre-kindergarten students.
• Help maintain a safe, healthy learning environment.
• Provide small group instruction under teacher supervision.
• Prepare and organize instructional materials.
• Encourage family involvement in the special education program.
• Maintain routine records related to attendance, grades, and behavior.
• Assist with mobility, toileting, feeding, and basic health tasks for students as directed.
• Support field trips and bus supervision as needed.
• Ensure confidentiality of school/workplace information.
• Represent the school in a courteous and professional manner.
