Job summary

Madison City Schools seeks a dedicated paraprofessional to support classroom goals for students from Pre-K through 12th grade. You will assist with academic, therapeutic, and recreational tasks under a certified special education teacher, including small-group work and individual student support.

Role requires a high school diploma, Alabama driver license not necessarily required, and the ability to lift and assist with various activities. Background checks apply; 187 days/year.

Qualifications

• Assist students with disabilities and adhere to classroom guidelines.
• Follow verbal and written instructions from teachers.
• Communicate effectively with students, families and staff.
• Maintain safety for special needs students and adapt as needed.
• Know school rules, policies and procedures for compliance.
• Demonstrate emotional and physical stability to support students.

Responsibilities

• Assist in academic, therapeutic, and recreational tasks under supervision.
• Work with small groups to reinforce material and re-teach when needed.
• Assist individual students requiring extra attention.
• Support independent study and remediation activities as directed.
• Assist with routine clerical tasks and learning displays.
• Prepare instructional aids and classroom materials.
• Help with non-instructional duties such as snack and hygiene.
• Supervise students during lunch, PE, trips, and testing.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional standards.
• Participate in staff development and para-professional training.
• Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
