Job summary

Madison City Schools seeks a paraeducator to assist in implementing classroom programs for students from Pre-K through 12th grade. You will work under the supervision of a certified special education teacher and support both group and individual activities as needed.

The role emphasizes assisting students with disabilities, following verbal and written instructions, and maintaining safety and confidentiality in a collaborative school environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; preference for related experience.
• Must be at least 18 years old with a valid Alabama driver’s license.
• Ability to work under supervision with certified special education teachers.

Responsibilities

• Performs academic, therapeutic, and recreational tasks under the supervision of a certified special education teacher(s).
• Works with small groups to reinforce and re-teach material initially introduced by teachers.
• Works with individual students needing special attention.
• Assists with independent study, enrichment, remedial work as directed by teachers.
• Assists with routine classroom clerical and housekeeping duties.
• Assists with instructional aids, bulletin boards and learning displays.
• Assists with supervision during lunch, assemblies, PE, field trips and testing.
• Maintains confidentiality of information per school policy and standards.
• Participates in staff development and para-professional training as mandated.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the administration.
