The role reports to the Teacher/Process Coordinator/Director of Special Education and starts immediately.

Responsibilities include implementing instructional support, assisting with health procedures, attending IEP

Qualifications

• Must possess good communication skills and have the ability to work with students and parents.
• Paraprofessionals are required to obtain 60 college credit hours or have passed the ParaPro/related assessments as described by DESE.
• Experience working with children preferred.

Responsibilities

• The length of the day and calendar shall be determined by the district.
• Become familiar with teaching procedures and the teacher's schedule of activities.
• Assist the teacher in devising strategies based on individual students' needs and abilities.
• Provide escort and assistance to children in various settings.
• Check students' work, correct papers, and supervise tests and makeup work.
• Assist students with physical tasks and transitions within the school day.
• Operate teaching aides like VCRs, DVDs, computers, and assistive technology.
• Alert the teacher to problems or information about students.
• Assist with clerical tasks including data goals for students.
• Participate in workshops, in-service trainings, IEP meetings, etc.
• Assist with lunch, snack, cleanup, and toileting routines.
• Assist with health-related procedures as trained.
• Help teachers manage students with challenging behaviors.
• Participate in Safe Crisis Management when trained.
• Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce material.
• Maintain a learning-conducive environment in the classroom.
• Monitor the classroom during IEP meetings and staffings.
• Observe, record, and follow the teacher's management plan.
• Assist in managing students in all school settings as directed.
• Assist in preparing teaching materials during the day.
• Report to the teacher/case manager regarding student programs.
