Job summary

East Baton Rouge Parish School System is seeking a paraprofessional to assist teachers in providing for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in a special education setting. The role supports classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instructional activities, under supervision.

The incumbent will help with instructional materials, student supervision, and basic care, ensuring confidentiality and safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 college credits) or an Associate's degree or higher.
• Minimum score of 450 on the ETS Parapro Exam.

Responsibilities

• Assists teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of classroom equipment.
• Assist teachers in maintaining administrative records and preparing required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assist students with physical disabilities including transfers and positioning.
• Assist with feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene with proper training.
• Help manage student behavior, including crisis intervention and safe restraint as needed.
• Support individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises.
• Supervise students during lunch, bus, and playground duties.
• Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
• Participate in staff development, meetings, and school events.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding personnel and students.
• Uphold school safety rules and district policies.

Education
