Job summary

New Haven Public Schools in Connecticut seeks a Paraeducator to support classroom teachers in fostering emotional, physical, and intellectual development for each child. The role is aligned with Local Union 3429 and follows a 10-month work year.

You will assist in planning, materials prep, and documentation of curriculum activities, while collaborating with staff to honor diverse backgrounds and learning styles and attending parent meetings as required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 60 college credits or a qualifying ParaPro score is required.
• Physical ability to perform tasks in a classroom environment per job demands.

Responsibilities

• Assists the teacher in establishing and maintaining a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
• Consults with teacher on plans and curriculum activities.
• Assists the teacher in preparing and maintaining classroom materials and supplies.
• Participates in all planned school activities, staff meetings and workshops.
• Observes strengths and needs of each child and helps establish individual goals.
• Works with teacher to ensure the classroom respects cultural backgrounds, languages and learning styles.
• Assists in planning, implementing and documenting curriculum activities across developmental areas.
• Supports self-concept and collaborates with staff to involve parents in the classroom and program.
• Provides for students' physical needs, including diapering.
