Naugatuck Public Schools seeks a Para-Educator to support students under the direction of a certified teacher, providing one-to-one or small-group assistance and helping maintain materials and records.

The role requires a warm, patient demeanor, ability to reinforce instruction, and willingness to participate in meetings and school activities. This position is based at Central Avenue Early Childhood Center in Naugatuck, CT.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Warm and supportive personality with the ability to relate to special needs children.
• Ability to respect the rights of all students and the rules of confidentiality.
• Prior experience working in a school setting is preferred.
• Must meet highly qualified requirements: 2 years of college (48 credits), or an Associate's degree, or ParaPro score.

Responsibilities

• Prepare classroom for the start and end of the school year.
• Maintain daily classroom environment and learning centers setup.
• Reinforce skills taught in daily lessons.
• Maintain behavior modification plans and schedules.
• Assist with group lessons and individualized seatwork.
• Assist with art, music, physical education and other specials as appropriate.
• Participate in field trips, recess, lunch and playground activities.
• Assist with health-related tasks as needed (toileting, feeding, etc.).
• Attend PPT/IEP meetings when required.
• Support transportation-related duties as assigned.
• Attend staff meetings and professional development.
