Job summary

Big Spring Independent School District is seeking an instructional aide to assist the teacher with classroom activities and administrative tasks. The role involves supervising students, helping prepare instructional materials, and supporting testing and records.

Under the supervision of a certified teacher, the aide will work with individual students or small groups, help maintain a neat classroom, and participate in staff development and school events as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Must meet NCLB requirements as described in the posting.
• Knowledge of reading, writing, and mathematics instruction or readiness is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Uphold and enforce school rules, regulations, and board policy.
• Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Work with individual students or small groups on instructional exercises.
• Assist with administration and scoring of tests and assignments.
• Supervise students during the school day, inside and outside classrooms.
• Inform the teacher of any student needs or problems.
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment.
• Assist with inventory and maintenance of equipment.
• Help keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Participate in staff development, meetings, and events as needed.
• Provide orientation to substitute teachers.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the local school district.

Job Qualifications

Education/Certification:

• High School diploma or GED

Must neet NCLB requirements:

• (a) completed at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education; or
• (b) obtained an associate's (or higher) degree; or
• (c) meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal state or local assessment:

• 1. knowledge of, and the ability in instructin reading, writing, and mathematics; or
• 2. knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to work well with children.
• Knowledge of general office equipment.

Major Responsibilities and Duties
