Job summary

Big Spring ISD is seeking a Special Education/Life Skills Aide for the Big Spring Intermediate School (5th & 6th Grade) in Big Spring, Texas. You will assist the teacher with classroom activities and administrative duties under supervision.

Responsibilities include preparing instructional materials, supervising students, and assisting with testing and record-keeping. This full-time, on-site role supports students with life skills needs in a collaborative school setting.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Meets NCLB requirements: either 2 years of higher education, an associate degree, or a rigorous standard demonstrated.
  • Knowledge of reading/writing/mathematics instruction readiness.

  • Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Work with individual students or small groups as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist in administration and scoring of objective tests and assignments.

Job Description: Assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher.

Job Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must neet NCLB requirements:
  • (a) completed at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education;
  • (b) obtained an associate's (or higher) degree;
  • (c) meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal state or local assessment:
  • 1. knowledge of, and the ability in instruction reading, writing, and mathematics; or
  • 2. knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work well with children.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment.

Salary Schedule: Local Hiring Schedule

Additional Job Information:

  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
  • Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assigned assignments.
  • Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and otuside the classroom.
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist the teacher in keeping adminstrative records and preparing required reports.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings,and special events, as needed.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Performs other duties as determined by the local school district.
