Job summary

Sylvania seeks an Educational Aide to support instructional activities and classroom operations. The role includes preparing materials, maintaining logs, and assisting substitutes, under the supervision of teachers and case managers.

Fostering a positive learning environment, you will supervise students during activities, monitor field trips, and maintain confidentiality while contributing to district goals. 176 days of work with standard local terms and conditions.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate with TEA Educational Aide Certification.
  • Ability to interpret and follow instructions; work with minimal supervision.
  • CPR/First Aid and CPI training may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in instructional activities with students and teacher.
  • Helps teacher prepare student materials.
  • Keeps required logs (data, SPED documentation).
  • Provides orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Assists in supervising classroom, playground and lunchroom.
  • Helps monitor students during field trips.
  • Keeps teacher/case manager informed of special needs or problems.
  • Maintains confidentiality and strives to improve competencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Assist in the attainment of District goals by enhancing the effectiveness of the staff member to whom assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification: High school graduate and possesses other requirements that will qualify applicant for Texas Education Agency Educational Aide Certification.

Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to interpret and follow instructions and work effectively with minimum supervision. Work effectively with others.

CPR/First Aid, Safety care and/or CPI

Minimum Experience: None

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES AND EXPECTATIONS

MAJOR RESPONSBILITIES AND DUTIES
Instructional Support
  1. Participates in instructional activities with students and teacher.
  2. Help teacher prepare student materials.

Supervisory Support
  1. Assist in supervising classroom, playground and lunchroom.
  2. Help monitor students during field trips.
  3. Keep teacher/case manager informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
Student and Community

Maintain confidentiality at all times, strive to improve competencies.

Perform other duties as assigned.

EQUIPMENT USED

Wheelchair lifts and ramps, other special needs equipment as needed, typewriter, word-processor, computers, copier machine, and other general office machines.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students; indoor and outdoor as assigned.

Students as assigned

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

176 days; salary schedule as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board and are not intended as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required.
