Job summary

Central Michigan University invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term faculty position in Special Education in the College of Education & Human Services. The Lecturer will teach graduate and undergraduate courses with a 4-course load across fall and spring semesters (4-4).

Position Summary


The Department of Teacher and Special Education at Central Michigan University invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term faculty position in Special Education. Primary professional responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Special Education. This includes a 4-course teaching load, fall and spring semesters, in the academic year (4-4). This position is effective August 24, 2026. CMU is seeking a candidate who can begin preferably in the Fall 2026 semester; however, a Spring 2027 start may be considered. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is an initial one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal based on positive performance and department needs.


Required Qualifications



  • Doctoral degree in Special Education or closely related field; ABD considered if degree is conferred by the start date.

  • Three years of PK-12th grade U.S. experience teaching students with disabilities; may also include working with students up to the age of 26.

  • Evidence of effective collaboration and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the field of Special Education.

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Evidence of postsecondary teaching effectiveness.

  • Experience with online and/or face-to-face instruction.

  • Expertise in one or more areas: (a.) providing academic and behavioral instructional support/accommodations to PK-12th grade students with high-incidence in special education and inclusive educational settings, (b.) content area expertise in special education-reading and mathematics, (c.) knowledge of Michigan Department of Education Standards for Educator Preparation in Special Education, and/or (d.) Council for Exceptional Children’s initial preparation standards and high-leverage practices.
