Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools in Huntsville, Alabama, seeks an Instructional Assistant in Special Education Services to support teachers in classrooms, resource centers, and related areas. You will provide clerical and instructional assistance under the direction of assigned staff.

You will work with students individually or in groups, help with materials, supervise students, and follow FERPA guidelines while assisting with mobility and data recording as needed.

Qualifications

• An Associates degree (or higher) OR two (2) years of full-time study at an institution of higher education OR passing test scores in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics on the WorkKeys assessment.

Responsibilities

• Provides support services to teachers and instructional staff in classrooms, resource centers, and other school-related areas as assigned.
• Participates in development and planning of lesson plans and instructional activities under direction of assigned staff.
• Works with students individually or in groups to supplement instruction and reinforce lesson plans.
• Assists with supervision of students inside and outside the classroom to maintain order and district standards.
• Assists in planning and scheduling class field trips and educational activities as needed.
• Assists students with mobility needs such as lifting, transporting, and positioning.
• Notifies staff regarding evidence of child abuse/neglect and other serious conditions as required.
• May monitor and record data on a students progress or behavior under supervision.
• Assists with personal care tasks as needed and provides programmed practice activities as developed by teachers or therapists.
• Prepares and organizes materials and resources for instructional use and maintains confidentiality under FERPA.
