Job summary

Montgomery-Public-Schools Instructional Assistant, Special Education Services, Huntsville, AL, supports teachers with meeting student needs and learning objectives through instructional and clerical duties. You will work with SPED staff in classrooms and resource centers to reinforce lessons and assist students with mobility and personal care tasks.

The role involves supervising students, helping plan activities, and coordinating materials while following FERPA guidelines and district policies.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree (or higher) OR two (2) years of college OR WorkKeys passing scores in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Responsibilities

• Provides support services to teachers and other instructional staff in the SPED department in classrooms and resource centers.
• Participates in development and planning of effective lesson plans and instructional activities.
• Works with students individually or in groups to supplement instruction and reinforce lesson plans.
• Assists with supervision of students and behavior to maintain a productive learning environment.
• Assists in planning and scheduling field trips and educational activities.
• Assists students with mobility and personal care tasks as needed.
• Notifies appropriate personnel about child abuse/neglect or safety concerns.
• May monitor and record data on student progress or behavior.
• Prepares and organizes materials and clerical tasks for instructional use.
