Job summary

Mesa Public Schools in Mesa, AZ seeks a dedicated paraeducator to assist, under direct supervision of certified teachers and specialists, in monitoring and instruction of special education students following Individual Education Plans. You will aid students in academic tasks, daily living activities, and health care activities, relieving teachers of routine clerical duties.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or 60 college credit hours required at time of hire or pass the ParaPro Test provided by the district free of charge
• Previous experience and record of effectiveness in similar roles

Responsibilities

• Deliver, under teacher’s direction, classroom work/homework and reinforce objectives, tutoring and guided practice
• Assist in the development of instructional materials and maintenance of classroom
• Assist in the collection of data on academic and behavior goals as instructed
• Implement positive behavior intervention plans for students who display challenging behaviors including verbal and physical aggression
• Respond to problem behaviors according to the student’s plan and district policy
• Perform and provide support tasks as required based on student need, including transfer and positioning assistance
• Assist with personal care needs and transitions to ensure student functioning in school environment
• Maintain classroom safety and participate in meetings to share information and improve skills
