Job summary

Wake County Public School System seeks an Educational Assistant for Special Education to support instructional programs and IEP implementation. The role maintains a safe classroom, assists with behavioral plans, and helps prepare materials for students with diverse needs.

Responsibilities include aiding teachers, coordinating transitions, and supporting students with health care needs. Strong communication, confidentiality, and teamwork are essential in this on-site position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CPI certification required or CPI training provided by WCPSS.
• ESSA Title I schools may require additional coursework or experience in early childhood settings.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality under FERPA and related laws.
• Ability to work in a team and communicate clearly with students, families, and staff.
• Experience with assistive technologies and ACA devices is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in coordinating instructional programs for SPED students and IEPs.
• Assist with implementing behavioral intervention plans.
• Plan and organize instructional activities and prepare materials.
• Ensure a safe, conducive learning environment and maintain student supervision.
• Assist with transitions between classes and with health care needs as required.
• Utilize low/high-tech assistive tech and AAC devices to meet student needs.
• Maintain confidentiality and proper documentation of records and reports.
• Participate in district professional development and growth.
• Provide one-on-one support for students with significant needs as assigned.
