Job summary

Redbird Elementary in Mesa, Arizona is seeking an Instructional Assistant Special Education I - Self-Contained to support certified teachers and specialists with monitoring and instruction of students under IEPs.

The role assists with academic, daily living, and health care tasks, relieves teachers of routine clerical duties, and helps maintain a safe, inclusive classroom. Requires an Associate degree or 60 credits; benefits include sick leave, holidays, health insurance.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or 60 college credit hours required at time of hire OR pass the ParaPro Test.
• Experience working with children.

Responsibilities

• Deliver, under teacher’s direction, classroom work/homework and reinforce objectives.
• Assist in development of instructional materials and classroom maintenance.
• Assist in data collection on academic and behavior goals as instructed.
• Implement positive behavior intervention plans for students with challenging behaviors.
• Respond to problem behaviors according to PBIS policy.
• Assist students with personal care needs as required.
• Accompany students during transitions across campus.
• Monitor small groups to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Maintain classroom and equipment and model professional behavior.
• Perform clerical tasks to support the teacher and participate in meetings.
• Attend regularly and on time; assist with other duties as assigned.
