Job summary

Wayne County Public Schools is seeking an EC Instructional Assistant to support the lead teacher in the classroom and during meals and activities. This role emphasizes assisting students with learning tasks and monitoring behavior in a safe environment.

The position requires a Two Year Degree or 48 hours of college coursework, reports to the Principal, and aims to reinforce material while maintaining student safety and records. Ten-month employment with grade 56 salary range.

Qualifications

• Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to develop and file incident reports and maintain records.

Responsibilities

• Follow all rules, policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school issues.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
• Assist the teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing material based on student needs.
• Monitor student behavior and help maintain discipline in the classroom; assist with crisis prevention/ de-escalation.
• Monitor safety and well-being of students during various activities.
• Assist with supervision during drills, field trips, lunch and recess.
• Perform clerical duties: attendance, grading, records, and preparing instructional materials.
• Assist with large group activities like drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.
• Maintain confidentiality and be a reliable source of information for substitutes.
