Job summary

Wayne County Public Schools seeks an EC Instructional Assistant to support teachers by monitoring and assisting students in the classroom, lunch, and other activities to ensure safe, quality instruction.

The role requires a two-year degree or 48 college hours and reports to the Principal. Ten-month employment with at-will status, with duties including clerical tasks, material preparation, and classroom supervision as needed.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of effective methods for dealing with children.
• Ability to establish and maintain relationships with staff and students.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Knowledge of classroom routines and emergency procedures.

Responsibilities

• Follow all rules, policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school issues.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
• Assist teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing material based on students’ needs.
• Monitor student behavior and help maintain discipline in the classroom; assist with crisis prevention.
• Maintain records of student progress; grade papers; manage attendance; prepare instructional materials.
