Qualifications

  • Must meet the requirements for Highly Qualified Status.
  • Qualifications may be satisfied by an Associate's Degree, 48 hours of transferable college coursework, or completion of the Pathways to Teacher Assistant I (48 hours) and the Teacher Assistant Training II (48 hours) for 96 contact hours.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all rules, policies and procedures for school issues.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
  • Assist the teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing material based on student needs.
  • Monitor student behavior and help maintain discipline in the classroom; support crisis prevention and de-escalation as needed.
  • Perform clerical duties, maintain records of student progress, and assist with classroom materials and displays.
  • Assist with large group activities and maintain confidentiality of student information.
