Job summary

Bethalto CUSD #8 is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher (PECT Coordinator) to support high school students through the Pre-Employment Career Training Program. You will develop IEPs, collaborate with teachers and families, and adapt instruction to meet diverse needs.

The role emphasizes inclusive classroom practices, regular progress reporting, and advocacy for students, across academic, social, and life-skill areas. A strong license in Special Education is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field.
• Illinois Professional Educator License with Special Education Endorsement.
• Experience working with students with disabilities in a classroom setting.
• Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation processes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with students, parents, and staff.
• Ability to create engaging lesson plans and adapt instructional materials for diverse learners.
• Patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to a supportive learning environment.
• Proficiency in using technology for instructional purposes and record-keeping.
• Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement IEPs for students with disabilities.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and parents to create a cohesive support system.
• Assess students' progress and adapt instructional strategies to meet diverse needs.
• Provide direct instruction in academic, social, and life skills.
• Monitor and document student performance and behavior; update parents and administration.

• Participate in professional development to stay current with best practices.
• Advocate for students and coordinate with outside agencies when needed.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by policies.
