Job summary

AltaPointe Health is seeking a Special Education teacher to provide individualized instruction and coordinate IEPs within its educational program. The role collaborates with treatment teams, administrators, teachers and families to monitor progress, complete records in PowerSchool, and ensure compliance with state guidelines.

Preferred candidates hold a Bachelor’s in Special Education and Alabama certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in special education required.
• Alabama teaching certification in Special Education (K-6, 6-12) required.

Responsibilities

• Instructs students individually in accordance with identified needs.
• Consults with treatment team to ensure utilization of a behavior management system consistent with other program components.
• Works collaboratively with local school administration, teachers, and paraprofessionals.
• Schedules eligibility/initial evaluations as needed.
• Works with general education teachers to provide services and supports.
• Provides specialized instruction to support acquisition of grade level curriculum.
• Schedules IEP meetings as needed.
• Maintains special education records/PowerSchool reports.
• Completes Data Verification forms as needed.
• Monitors and reports data for tracking systems.
• Performs duties assigned by Special Education LEA or school system administrators.
• Plans and schedules educational field trips; may drive program vehicle.
• Identifies educational needs for summer tutorial services.
• Writes daily/weekly lesson plans for staff continuity in teacher’s absence.
• Recognizes crisis states and deescalates or resolves situations.
• Applies seclusion and restraint per AltaPointe policy.
• Assesses educational needs and adjusts plans; administers testing within 10 days of admission.
• Develops and implements IEPs; prepares discharge summaries and final reports.
• Provides verbal and written progress reports to parents/guardians.
• Ensures compliance of records with State Department of Education guidelines.
• Maintains awareness of current educational techniques.
• Maintains professional relationships with staff and external contacts.
• Delegates routine tasks to behavioral staff to meet student needs.
• Attends treatment team meetings for clinical planning and administrative issues.
• Liaises with local educational system for appropriate placement and services.
• Represents courteous and respectful attitude toward consumers, visitors and co-workers.
• Participates in Performance Improvement activities and AltaPointe committees.
• Completes tasks in a timely manner and adheres to policies.
