Job Description
The primary responsibilities of the Special Education Coordinator are to ensure equitable access to education for students with disabilities (SWD) by leading the development and compliant implementation of IEPs, coaching educators to foster inclusive environments, and optimizing district-wide resources.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Case-manage and chair Team meetings (including initials and 3-year re-evaluations, manifestation determinations, and contentious/legally involved) for all students;
- Oversee the development of all IEPs to ensure high quality;
- Progress monitor student growth with teachers and service providers;
- Review and determine needed student observations and assessments as well as determine appropriate services and placement options;
- Manage cases that are involved in mediation, litigation, BSEA complaints, Hearings, Office for Civil Rights investigations, etc.;
- Work with all staff and coordinate efforts with colleagues and outside providers to ensure the provision of services are provided;
- Assure compliance with all state and federal regulations/laws;
- Assist in organizing transportation for eligible students;
- Assist in the collection of school and district statistical and individual student performance data and complete all necessary reports in a timely manner;
- Oversee the specialized in-district classrooms for compliance and quality;
- Case-manage students participating in 45-day placements, extended evaluations, and long-term placements out-of-district;
- Participate actively on the building-based Administrative/Leadership Team;
- Work with school clerks to maintain accurate student information data in ASPEN for student registration and IEPs, as well as state and federal reporting;
- Provide leadership in planning, organizing, and coordinating instruction and behavioral programs in the school;
- Consult with general educators regarding students with disabilities included in the general education inclusive setting;
- Assist in interviewing and selecting personnel for roles as special education teachers, ESPs and related services staff;
- Assist teachers and staff in developing classroom and individual student behavior intervention plans;
- Coordinate school-based staff meetings, workshops, or seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions;
- Coordinate school-based meetings related to special education and related services (i.e., CST, BBST, PLCs, staff meetings, etc.);
- Support the Middleborough Special Education Parent Advisory Council;
- Assist in developing workshops and trainings for staff in order to improve compliance, instruction, and programming for students with disabilities;
- Work with the Director to ensure the thorough completion of the MA DESE’s Integrated Monitoring Review process, Circuit Breaker audits, SPP Indicator Performance reporting, etc.;
- Conduct evaluations and observations of special education and related services staff as assigned;
- Participate in planning and organizing Extended School Year (ESY) Programming;
- Plan Transitional Planning meetings and vertical alignment meetings between grade levels and schools as applicable (e.g., K-1st, 5th-6th, and 8th-9th);
- Participate in long-range strategic planning and program projections regarding programming, staffing, enrollment growth, and facility needs;
- Attend bi-weekly meetings with the Director of Pupil Personnel Services;
- Other duties assigned by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services;

Salary: $95,000 to $105,000 Per Year

Job Requirements
- Possess a valid Massachusetts Administrator License (Supervisor/Director, Administrator of Special Education)
•A Master’s degree, with academic training in special education
•Demonstrate a history of strong leadership skills
•Understanding of state and federal special education and Section 504 compliance laws, regulations, and mandates (including discipline of SWD, manifestation determinations, civil rights)
•Experience observing and assessing students, analyzing data, developing high quality Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
•Thorough working knowledge of program development and implementation related to the needs of students with disabilities
•Demonstrate successful experience in working with professional staff, community partners, and families
•Five+ years of experience in public education, part of which must have been in teaching and/or supervising in the field of Special Education
•Experience working collaboratively and effectively with students, staff, parents/guardians, educational advocates, lawyers, and community partners to better integrate and plan services and supports for students in the Middleborough Public Schools
•Experience with the educator evaluation system and observation/evaluation of staff
•Excellent history of completion of special education paperwork within legal guidelines for timelines, LRE regulations, and district protocols
•Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and non-verbal
•Excellent organizational skills
•Excellent work attendance history
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
Annual Salary Range (204 Days) = $95,000 to $105,000
