Job summary

Fairfax County Public Schools is seeking an Instructional Assistant to support teachers in general and special education settings. You will perform paraprofessional tasks, assist with instructional activities, manage classroom behavior, and help with materials and recordkeeping.

The role includes supervising students, reading with them, and assisting with assessments while maintaining confidentiality and following instructional plans.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of experience with children (volunteer or paid) or documented teacher education experience.
• For Title I: associate degree or two years of college or demonstrated academic proficiency.
• Knowledge of child development; ability to follow instructional plans and maintain confidentiality.
• Effective communication, written and oral, and ability to work with students and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers and staff in classroom environments.
• Provide instructional and developmental activities for general or special education students.
• Support remedial instruction and progress monitoring.
• Supervise and manage behavior; assist with routine care and student supervision.
• Prepare instructional materials and assist with assessments and records.
• On occasion serve as substitute teacher and support off-site activities.
