Job summary

Fairfax County Public Schools seeks an instructional support assistant for a special education setting. You will aid teachers with curricular activities, monitor student behavior, and help develop individualized plans to meet diverse needs.

Responsibilities include supporting daily living skills, data collection, and supervising students across classrooms and related environments to ensure a safe and productive learning atmosphere.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1 year of experience with children (volunteer or paid).
• Knowledge of child growth, health, safety and first aid.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to assist with a variety of educational experiences and adapt instructional techniques.
• Willingness to learn school policies and work with staff.
• Preferred: experience communicating with children with special needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with curricular and instructional tasks in special education.
• Support individual and small groups to develop motor and academic skills.
• Participate in planning activities and monitor student behavior.
• Assist with daily living skills and supervision in classrooms and on school grounds.
• Record observations and assist with data for assessments.
