Job summary

Fairfax County Public Schools seeks an Instructional Assistant to support teachers in general and special education settings, performing curricular, instructional and clerical tasks to help manage the classroom.

Responsibilities include assisting with instructional activities, preparing materials, supervising students, and helping with behavior and progress monitoring in collaboration with instructional staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of experience with children or equivalent.
• For Title I: Associate degree or two years college or equivalent.
• Knowledge of child growth and development.
• Knowledge of instructional procedures and practices.
• Ability to implement instructional plans and follow instructions.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Performs curricular, instructional, clerical, and support tasks to assist teachers and other staff.
• Works with teachers to provide instructional or developmental activities for general or special education students.
• Performs remedial instruction or tasks to reinforce learning.
• Supervises and monitors students, including behavior management and crisis handling.
• Prepares instructional materials and reports as requested.
• Assists with individual or small groups and may monitor labs or technology.
• May substitute for teachers when needed and maintains student records.
