Job summary

Humboldt Unified School District is seeking a Paraprofessional to support students with moderate, severe or profound needs. You will assist classroom teachers, help with IEP goals, and aid in daily routines including transportation and personal care where needed.

The role emphasizes maintaining a positive learning environment, confidentiality under FERPA, and collaboration with staff, parents and the community to support student success.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Criminal justice/fingerprint clearance is required.
• CPR/First Aid Certification is preferred and may be required.
• Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in maintaining an effective learning environment.
• Support IEP goals and daily activities as directed by the teacher/therapists.
• Assist students with bus entry/exit and movement between classes.
• Help students with daily personal care and bodily functions as needed.
• Monitor for signs of abuse or neglect and report appropriately.
• Assist students with eating and participation in activities.
• Support students in mainstreamed classes and during field trips.
• Provide calm, safe presence during emotional distress or outbursts.
• May be required to restrain students if properly trained and necessary.
• Supervise and direct student behavior; assist with materials preparation and evaluation.
• Complete Medicaid Direct Service reimbursement paperwork monthly.
