Job summary

Chesterfield County Public Schools is seeking an Instructional Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year to support students with IEPs in general and special education settings.

You will assist teachers with classroom duties, supervise students on bus, support during instruction, and help with clerical tasks while following IEP directives.

Applicants must have a high school diploma and complete required trainings, including First Aid/CPR/AED; background checks apply.

Qualifications

• Some knowledge of childhood growth and development, behavior management techniques and clerical procedures; of general academic subjects sufficient to teach others.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise children in the absence of the special education teacher; to perform basic clerical tasks; communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Assists special education teachers with classroom duties, including recording grades, preparing instructional materials, and administering instructional and testing accommodations.
• Supports students during instructional activities (one-on-one, small groups, whole group) and documents progress as directed by the teacher.
• Assists students onto/off the school bus and supervises at lunch/recess per IEP.
• Serves as an aide on the school bus as indicated in the IEP.
• Works with students to implement the child’s IEP under the teacher’s direction.
• Participates in training and implements support for toileting, personal care, and basic healthcare needs per IEP; may stand in for clinic assistant if trained.
• Implements accommodations in a child’s IEP as directed by the teacher.
• Provides clerical assistance – typing, filing, maintaining records and ordering supplies.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Education
