Job summary

Seattle Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Assistant/ISE-203 to support instruction and supervision of students with special needs in regular or self-contained classrooms. The role involves assisting in implementing IEP plans, monitoring behavior, and communicating with school staff.

Responsibilities vary by program and may include adapting activities, assisting with assessments, attending meetings, and ensuring a safe learning environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with one of: PESB paraeducator assessment, an associate degree or higher, 72 quarters/48 semesters, or an apprenticeship.
• Experience with children preferred.
• Ability to follow instructions and implement IEP objectives.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities and materials under teacher guidance to include all special education students.
• Assists in administering materials, tests, and organizing student records.
• Administers first aid and medical assistance as required.
• Assists students with personal care needs as needed.
• Attends meetings and communicates student progress to teachers/parents.
• Directs and implements behavioral plans for students with behavior disorders.
• Instructs students in activities to reinforce instructional objectives and remediate goals.
• Maintains instructional materials and student files/records.
• Monitors students for safety and positive learning environments.
• Performs related duties to support efficient operation of the school.
