Job summary

Seattle Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Assistant/ISE-203 to assist in supervising, caring for, and instructing students with special needs in regular or self-contained classrooms. You will help implement instructional plans, monitor behavior, and support IEP objectives.

Duties vary by school/program (generalist, severe/profound, behavior disorders, hearing impaired, autism, etc.). Requires collaboration with teachers and families and participation in meetings and trainings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and at least one of the following.
• Education Testing Service paraeducator assessment as published by PESB.
• An associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Seventy-two quarter credits or forty-eight semester credits at the one hundred level or higher.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities and materials under direction of the teacher.
• Administers materials and assignments to help evaluate student progress.
• Administers first aid and medical assistance as required.
• Assists students with personal care needs as needed.
• Attends meetings and trainings to stay informed about job functions.
• Confers with teachers/parents regarding student progress and IEP objectives.
• Implements behavioral plans for students with behavior disorders.
• Instructs students in activities to reinforce instructional objectives and remediation plans.
• Maintains instructional materials and student files/records.
• Monitors students in various school environments for safety and learning.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
