Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

• An associate degree, or 48 semester hours of college credits, or completion of a series of WorkKeys assessments plus 96 contact hours of staff development.
• Preschool assistants must have an associate's degree in Early Childhood Development due to licensing requirements.
• Must become initially certified in a Crisis Intervention Program and maintain that certification.
• Must meet paraprofessional requirements under No Child Left Behind.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of tasks to assist a teacher of students with disabilities under general supervision.
• Supports the teacher to provide quality instruction for all students and meets diverse needs.
• Provides one-on-one academic assistance and may lead small group activities.
• Assists with housekeeping, clerical duties and maintenance of school equipment.
• Maintains safety, daily routines, and emergency procedures in compliance with policies.
