Job summary

Abilities First, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Teacher Assistant for the LaGrange School program in Poughkeepsie, NY.

The role supports an interdisciplinary team, assists in implementing IEP goals, and helps ensure a positive learning environment for students of varying abilities. Qualifications include NYS Teacher Assistant Certification and a high school diploma; experience with children or adults with disabilities is a plus.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
NYS Teacher Assistant Certification.
Experience working with children and/or adults with disabilities a plus!

Responsibilities

Assumes responsibility of the classroom in the absence of the Classroom Teacher.
Follows classroom schedule ensuring that individual student therapies and IEP goals are implemented, and appropriate data is collected.
Assists students using classroom educational computer programs.
Assists the Classroom Teacher and Teacher Aides in the preparation and development of teacher made materials.
Assists in the organization and arrangement of the classroom to provide a conducive learning environment.
Assists in general housekeeping skills.
Escorts students to and from school buses for independence in orientation and mobility.
Attends professional staff meetings and in-service training; contributes to staff development.
Supports UPK curriculum implementation across the classroom.
