Job summary

Jamestown High School is seeking a Teacher Assistant - Special Education to support instructional procedures and provide additional time for instruction and guidance. You will reinforce activities, help with classroom routines, and assist in managing behavior and student records.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, autism paraprofessional training, and the ability to work with developmentally delayed and special education students.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Basic computing and spelling skills required.
• Patience, flexibility, dependability, interest, punctuality, and ability to follow directions.
• Experience in nursing, childcare, or special education preferred.
• Special Education Aide II: completion of a minimum of 48 hours of college credit.

Responsibilities

• Prepares classroom materials and arranges environments for special education students.
• Works with individuals, small groups, or large groups as assigned by teacher.
• Collects data on student performance and progress.
• Monitors students' progress and maintains records.
• Accompanies students to lunch, buses, and field trips; escorts to activities.
• Assists with classroom discipline and social, emotional, and physical needs.
• Monitors safety in various school environments; supports transitions to mainstream.
• Provides input for daily and long-range planning; reinforces activities previously introduced.
