Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED certificate.
• Autism paraprofessional training completed as of Sept 1, 2014.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Basic computing and spelling skills.
• Concern for general welfare of children and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Experience in nursing, childcare, or special education preferred.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and administrators.
• Patience, flexibility, dependability, and ability to follow directions.
• Special Education Aide II: completion of a minimum of 48 hours of college credit.

Responsibilities

• Prepares classroom materials and arranges classroom environments to fit needs of special education students.
• Works with individuals, small groups, or large groups of students as assigned by teacher.
• Collects data on student performance and progress as directed by the teacher.
• Observes and monitors students' progress and emotional behavior; maintains records.
• Accompanies students to and from lunchroom, buses, and field trips; escorts as needed.
• Assists teacher with classroom discipline and student needs; handles medical needs.
• Monitors students to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Assists in transition from self-contained to mainstream classes when appropriate.
• Provides input in planning daily and long-range programs.
• Assists with skills practice and reinforcement activities; may work individually or in groups.
• Performs clerical duties and maintains classroom operation records; keeps environment orderly.
• Participates in staff development and meetings.

• Performs other duties as assigned.
