Job summary

Applitrack is hiring a Special Education Assistant for the TLC Horn program to support students with disabilities under a certified teacher. This full-time, non-exempt role assists with instructional activities, self-help skills, and behavior management in a collaborative educational setting.

The position involves helping prepare materials, monitor student progress, assist with transfers and personal care, and maintain confidentiality while supporting staff during assessments and school events.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to collaborate with others and work with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; good communication skills.
• Familiarity with basic office equipment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the teacher to prepare instructional materials and displays.
• Assist with the instructional program under direct supervision, adapting to students' needs.
• Keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Assist students with physical disabilities, including transfers to and from wheelchairs.
• Attend to students' physical needs and personal care tasks.
• Help manage student behavior under supervision of a certified teacher.
• Work with individuals or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct exercises.
• Report to the teacher any special needs or problems of individual students.
• Assist assessment team by administering achievement/development tests.
• Supervise students during lunch, bus, and playground.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Participate in staff development and faculty meetings; attend special events as needed.
• Supervise students when the teacher is temporarily absent.
• Perform other duties and SHARS-related tasks as assigned.
