Job summary

Crenshaw Middle School is seeking a Special Education Assistant (Cross Categorical) to support students under the guidance of a certified teacher. This role requires collaboration, confidentiality, and a team-oriented approach to daily classroom activities.

The position operates 6.5 hours per day for 191 days per year, with an hourly rate of $18.95. Applicants must hold an Educational Aide Permit and meet the Highly Qualified criteria (2 years of college or an Associate's Degree or Praxis

Qualifications

• Applicants must be Highly Qualified per criteria: two years of college or an Associate's Degree or Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Exam.

Responsibilities

• Assists the teacher to implement the IEPs.
• Assists students as needed to fulfill their educational needs.
• Helps students develop independence and personal responsibility.
• Provides lavatory assistance when necessary.
• Assists students during lunch and recreational activities.
• Assists students to and from classes.
• Assists students on trips.
• Maintains academic and behavioral standards set by the teacher.
• Assists students loading and unloading on buses.
• Assists in active therapy programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of a Cross Categorical Assistant include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assists the teacher to implement the IEP's
• Assists students as needed to fulfill their educational needs
• Helps students develop a sense of independence and personal responsibility
• Provides lavatory assistance when necessary
• Assists students during lunch and recreational activities
• Assists students to and from classes
• Assists students on trips
• Understands and maintains the academic and behavioral standards set for the students by the certified teacher
• Assists students loading and unloading on buses
• Assists in active therapy programs
• Performs other duties as assigned

Applicants for the above positions are REQUIRED to be Highly Qualified, which is defined as: Two (2) years of college (Minimum of 48 Semester Hours, or 72 Quarter Hours), or possess an Associate's Degree, or passed the Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Exam.

Applicants must submit a copy of their Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Exam results, or a copy of their college transcript(s) to verify their Highly Qualified Status. Applicants must also have a valid Educational Aide Permit, or obtain one immediately upon being employed with the Canton City School District. If you do not meet the criteria for Highly Qualified, you are not eligible to apply.
