Job summary

Belden Elementary School in Canton, Ohio is seeking a SPECIAL EDUCATION ASSISTANT (CROSS CAT) to support teachers with IEP goals and student needs. This full-time role is 6.5 hours daily across 191 days per year, starting immediately, with an hourly rate of $18.95.

The ideal candidate will hold a High School diploma or equivalent and an Educational Aide Permit, demonstrate confidentiality and teamwork, and be able to assist in lunch, transit, and therapy activities as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Educational Aide Permit required.
• Confidentiality, honesty, and ability to cooperate with others.
• Team player able to work with others.
• Highly Qualified: two years of college (48 semester hours) or an Associate’s Degree or passed the Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Exam.
• Submit Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment results or college transcripts to verify Highly Qualified Status; must have Educational Aide Permit or obtain one upon employment.
• If not Highly Qualified, you are not eligible to apply.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher to implement the IEPs.
• Assist students to fulfill educational needs.
• Help students develop independence and personal responsibility.
• Provide lavatory assistance when necessary.
• Assist students during lunch and recreational activities.
• Assist students to and from classes and on trips.
• Understand and maintain academic and behavioral standards set by the teacher.
• Assist in loading/unloading on buses.
• Assist in active therapy programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
