Job summary

Seattle Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Assistant to support students with IEPs in the Rainier Beach High School setting. The role involves assisting in instruction, behavior management and coordinating with teachers.

You will adapt materials, monitor progress, and participate in meetings to support student outcomes. The position requires teamwork, reliability, and adherence to safety and confidentiality standards.

Qualifications

• Qualifying score on the Education Testing Service paraeducator assessment as published by PESB.
• Or an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Or seventy-two quarter credits or forty-eight semester credits at the one hundred level or higher.
• Or completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.

Responsibilities

• Adapt activities and materials to provide opportunities for all special education students to participate in classroom activities.
• Assist in evaluating students' progress and organizing individual needs.
• Administer first aid and medical assistance as required.
• Assist students requiring support in addressing personal care needs.
• Attend meetings and in-service presentations to convey information related to job functions.
• Confers with teachers and/or parents to provide information on student progress.
• Direct and implement behavioral plans for students with behavior disorders.
• Instruct students in activities to reinforce instructional objectives and goals.
• Maintain instructional materials and student files/records.
• Monitor students during assigned periods to provide a safe learning environment.
