Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED and 48 semester hours or an associate degree from an accredited institution.
• Passed the Work Keys Test as mandated by the Alabama State Department of Education.
• Must meet the suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

Responsibilities

• Performs academic, therapeutic, and recreational tasks under the supervision of a certified special education teacher(s).
• Works with small groups of students to reinforce and re-teach material as needed.
• Assists individual students who need special attention.
• Assists with routine classroom clerical and housekeeping duties.
• Sets up instructional aids, bulletin boards and learning displays.
• Assists with non-instructional duties such as snack, personal hygiene, and clothing needs.
• Escorts and supervises students during library and lunch periods.
• Maintains confidentiality of information as required by school policy.
• Participates in staff development activities as mandated by the State Department of Education.
