Job summary

Fort Wayne Community Schools invites applications for a Special Education Assistant to support teachers with instructional clerical tasks and daily life activities for students with special needs in both special education and general classrooms.

The role follows a school-year schedule with shifts roughly 7:15 am–3:30 pm. Strong communication, organization, and a collaborative approach are essential as you help students succeed.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Preference for candidates with prior experience working with students with special needs.
• Ability to relate well with students, staff and parents.
• Strong office computer and oral/written communication skills.
• Knowledge of child guidance principles and basic instructional methods.
• Willingness to supervise students in community settings.
• Must participate in training provided by the Special Education Department.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with instructional clerical tasks and daily life activities for students with special needs.
• Support students in both special education and general classrooms.
• Supervise students in community settings as needed.
• Engage with students, families and staff to promote positive learning experiences.
