Job summary

Fort Wayne Community Schools is seeking a dedicated Special Education Assistant to support teachers and students in both special education and general classrooms. The role focuses on instructional clerical tasks, student management, and daily life activities for students with special needs.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, strong communication skills, and the ability to supervise students in community settings. Training and benefits are provided by the district.

Qualifications

• Candidate must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Prefer candidate to be highly-qualified. The paraprofessional can be determined for highly-qualified if he or she has:
• Two years of college experience from an accredited college
• A two-year college degree from an accredited college
• Passed the Para-Pro Assessment
• One year or 1 000 hours of previous employment in a school or working with children
• Passed annual school-level evaluations
• Completed 48 credit hours of college level classes from an accredited college
• Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials
• Must participate in training provided by the Special Education Department.
