Job summary

Fort Wayne Community Schools seeks a Special Education Assistant to support teachers in SPED and general classrooms, assisting with instructional tasks, student management, and daily living activities to help students stay engaged and ready to learn.

The role follows the school year with shifts around 7:15 am to 3:30 pm; benefits include paid holidays, paid time off, basic life insurance, optional direct primary care plan, and other supplemental benefits. Pension is available for longer hours.

Qualifications

• Candidate must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Experience with students with special needs preferred.
• Must be flexible to meet changing needs of students.
• Must relate well with students, staff, and parents.
• Strong office computer and oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of child guidance principles and basic instructional methods.
• Willing to supervise students in community settings.
• Must participate in training provided by Special Education Department.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with instructional clerical tasks for special education students.
• Support student management and daily living activities in SPED or general classrooms.
• Help supervise students in community settings.
• Provide a positive, supportive classroom environment.
