Job summary

Fredericksburg ISD is seeking a conscientious instructional aide to support students with disabilities in a self-contained classroom. Under the supervision of a certified teacher, you will assist with instructional programs, behavior management, and daily tasks.

This role emphasizes one-on-one or small-group support, mobility assistance, and maintaining a safe, orderly classroom environment. The position requires a HS diploma or GED and Texas educational aide certification, with opportunity for

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Associate’s degree or two years of college
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate
• Ability to work with children with disabilities
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Knowledge of general office equipment

Responsibilities

• Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
• Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assist students with physical disabilities including transferring to and from wheelchairs; lifting; positioning; or assisting with personal care.
• Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
• Help manage behavior of students and intervene in crisis situations.
• Recognize differences in each student’s needs and adapt methods accordingly.
• Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises.
• Help supervise students throughout the school day (lunchroom, bus, playground).
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in staff development and meetings.
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
