Job summary

Highland Arts Elementary School in Mesa, Arizona is seeking an Instructional Assistant Special Education I - Resource for a part-time role to support certified teachers with monitoring and instruction of students under IEPs.

The position involves assisting with daily living activities, data collection, preparing materials, behavior supports, and clerical tasks while maintaining a safe, respectful classroom environment.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or 60 college credit hours OR ParaPro Test provided by the district free of charge

Responsibilities

• Deliver, under teacher’s direction, classroom work/homework and reinforce objectives
• Assist in development of instructional materials and maintenance of the classroom
• Assist in the collection of data on academic and behavior goals as instructed
• Collaborate with certified personnel to implement positive behavior intervention plans for students with challenging behaviors
• Respond to problem behaviors according to the student’s PBIS plan and district crisis intervention policy
• Transfer and/or lift non-ambulatory students to assist daily activities
• Assist students with personal hygiene to support daily living activities and skills
• Assist students with personal care needs due to medical conditions to ensure functioning in a school environment
• Accompany students during transitions across campus
• Monitor small groups to maintain a safe learning environment
• Maintain classroom equipment to ensure safety
• Model professional and respectful behavior
• Perform general clerical tasks to support the teacher
• Attend meetings to share information and improve skills
• Regular and on-time attendance required
• Assist other personnel as needed to support their work
• Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
