Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking an Instructional Assistant-Special Education to support teachers in coordinating instructional programs for special education students and implementing IEPs. The role emphasizes confidentiality, collaboration with staff, and a safe learning environment.

The assistant will help plan and prepare materials, support behavioral interventions, and facilitate student transitions while maintaining compliance with FERPA and district policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• For Title I schools, six semester hours of coursework in early childhood or two years of work experience in early childhood.
• Maintain CPI certification and CPI training will be provided if needed.
• Prefer CPR and First Aid certification and experience with special needs students.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to teachers in coordinating instructional programs for special education students.
• Assist with implementing behavioral intervention plans and classroom strategies.
• Plan, organize, and prepare materials; ensure resources meet lesson needs.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA and district policies.
• Promote student safety and supervise students as required.
• Assist with transition between classes and adapt to health care needs as required.
• Support use of assistive technology and augmentative communication devices.
