Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking an Instructional Assistant - Special Education to support teachers in coordinating instructional programs for students with disabilities. The role includes assisting with implementing IEPs, managing materials, and maintaining a safe classroom environment.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, and meet ESSA requirements for TITLE I schools. CPI certification is required and CPR/First Aid is preferred; prior experience with special needs

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• ESSA requirements apply for TITLE I schools.
• Six semester hours in early childhood education or two years of early childhood work experience.
• CPI certification is required and training may be provided by WCPSS.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
• Experience with or supporting individuals with special needs is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in coordinating instructional programs for special education students.
• Assist with strategies for implementing behavioral intervention plans.
• Prepare materials and ensure they are available for lessons.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records and reports.
• Promote student independence and appropriate growth in class.
• Support use of assistive technology and AAC devices as needed.
• Coordinate student transitions and assist with health care needs as required.
• Participate in staff development and ongoing professional growth.
