Job summary

Montgomery-Public-Schools seeks an Exceptional Education Bus Driver to transport special needs students on assigned routes. The role requires a valid Alabama CDL with P/S endorsement, CPR certification, and the ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections.

You will ensure safety, discipline, and timely arrivals while on duty. Responsibilities include operating wheelchair lifts, maintaining a clean bus, and reporting incidents promptly.

Qualifications

• Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama bus driver license (ABL) and commercial driver’s license (CDL) with P/S endorsement.
• Maintain a current Alabama School Bus Physical or ALDOT Health Card as required by state law.
• Meet suitability criteria for employment under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
• Possess and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record and insurability.
• Pass drug test in accordance with applicable law.
• CPR certification required.
• Proficient in written and verbal communication skills.
• Operate a school vehicle on assigned routes to meet time schedules, including pre-dawn or dusk driving.
• Lift objects up to 50 pounds.
• Physical ability per state/federal regulations including pre/post-trip inspections and bus evacuations.
• Be punctual and maintain regular attendance.
• Board may accept alternatives as appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates support for the school system’s vision and priorities.
• Prepares and submits monthly school bus reports.
• Files accident reports when involved in accidents.
• Performs daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
• Maintains a clean bus and adheres to safety rules.
• Operates wheelchair lift and specialized equipment for designated students.
• Maintains discipline and reports issues to proper authorities.
• Transports students on field trips and events as assigned.
• Attends scheduled trainings and maintains confidentiality as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisors.
