Qualifications

• Must hold Alabama bus driver license (ABL) and CDL with P/S endorsement.
• Maintain Alabama School Bus Physical/ALDOT Health Card as required by state law.
• Meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under Alabama Child Protection Act.
• Maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record.
• Pass drug test.
• Proficient in written and verbal communication.
• Operate a school vehicle on assigned route per schedule, may drive dawn/dusk.
• Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Exert up to 50 pounds of force.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and bus evacuations.
• Be punctual and maintain regular attendance.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to all traffic laws and driving safety rules.
• Prepares and submits monthly school bus reports as required.
• Prepares and submits an accident report when involved in an accident.
• Performs daily pre-trip inspection of the bus and completes and submits form; performs post-trip inspection.
• Maintains a clean bus.
• Maintains discipline while students are on the bus.
• Reports students with discipline problems to the proper authority.
• Reports all accidents immediately to the transportation office; follows procedures.
• Regulates heating and ventilation for passenger comfort and safety.
• Notifies supervisor of mechanical issues or lateness.
• Maintains communications equipment on buses according to regulations.
• Maintains cooperative relationships with students, parents, community members, and employees.
• Picks up and discharges students at stops per route and schedule.
• Assists students in evacuating the bus when necessary.
• Transports students on field trips and events as assigned.
• Attends scheduled trainings.
• Maintains confidentiality of school/workplace matters.
• Demonstrates initiative for improvement in responsibilities.
• Responds to inquiries timely and positively.
• Maintains required reports, records, and correspondence.
• Cares for tools, equipment, and materials.
• Adheres to laws, policies, and procedures.
• Reports absences and takes leave per Board policies.
• Reports mechanical needs to Transportation Department.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
