Job summary

The Newark Board of Education seeks a Supervisor – Student Life to lead the planning, development, and management of district student services, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Minimum of three years of successful district- or school-level administration experience.
  • Certification as deemed necessary by the New Jersey Department of Education.

Responsibilities

  • Directs planning, development, and management of student services district-wide and ensures compliance with laws, codes, and regulations related to student services.
  • Facilitates liaison with community agencies to meet pupils' needs.
  • Meets with parents to discuss program implementation and resolve grievances.
  • Prepares reports for Central Office Administrators and state/federal agencies.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
  • Guides staff, parents, and community on district programs and compliance.
  • Promotes professional growth for staff.
  • Assists in evaluating instructional and non-instructional staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent.

Qualifications And Requirements
  • An appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate as deemed necessary by https://www.nj.gov/education/certification/certsandtitles/
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in school or district‑level administration.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status (*As defined in N.J.A.C. 6A:9-9 Instructional certificates.)
Basic Functions And Responsibilities
  • Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Superintendent, directs the planning, development, organization, management, direction, and implementation of all aspects of student service programs of the District; assures compliance with laws, codes, and regulations related to student services; evaluates assigned personnel; and performs related work.
  • Initiates, facilitates and supports liaison with community agencies and other resources to meet pupils' needs.
  • Meets with parents to discuss implementation of programs and to resolve grievances.
  • Assists in the preparation of reports requested by Central Office Administrators and local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
  • Guides staff, parents, and community in the interpretation of District programs and compliance with Federal, State, and District rules and regulations.
  • Participates in activities that promote professional growth for staff.
  • Assists in the evaluation of instructional and non‑instructional staff at the discretion of the Assistant Superintendent.
  • Performs other job‑related duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent.

Salary, Employment Period, Union Affiliation

Salary: The salary range for this position is $107,500 to $143,500.

Employment Period: Twelve (12) Months

Union Affiliation: City Association of Supervisors and Administrators (C.A.S.A.) – Pending contract negotiations.
