Job summary

First Mid Bank & Trust in Paris, IL is seeking a Special Assets Officer I to identify and minimize losses on assigned loan portfolios. You will lead collections, negotiate workouts, and coordinate foreclosure or bankruptcy actions while maintaining detailed records and reporting.

The role focuses on risk classification, loss mitigation, and asset recovery, with opportunities to participate in audits and ongoing training. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent of two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Identify and minimize potential losses and maximize recoveries on assigned loan portfolios, through collection activities and workout action plans; negotiate and execute loan restructures; manage negotiations, legal actions, collateral evaluation and documentation.
• Determine and report appropriate risk classification and reserve for problem loans.
• Review delinquency, maturity and unpaid tax reports and follow up with borrowers and loan officers.
• Prepare and review monthly/quarterly reports such as Delinquent Mortgage Loan Reports and Problem Loan Reports.
• Maintain client contact records.
• Prepare loss mitigation documents in compliance with guidelines.
• Monitor bankruptcy accounts, engage bank attorney when necessary, and oversee bankruptcy proofs of claim.
• Prepare documents for repossessions and legal actions against debtors.
• Coordinate foreclosure or repossession processes and maintain legal records.
• Maintain bank-owned property and participate in asset closings.
• Recover past due balances or negotiate recovery with approvals.
• Assist with routine audits.
• Complete required training associated with job function.
• All other duties as assigned.
